Roodies to play out for bronze as Eagles chase gold in Apcan Schools Series

Hoërskool Roodepoort will be playing against Germiston High School for the bronze medal in Pool D, while the Eagles will be tackling Carleton Jones for gold.

Hoërskool Roodepoort will be fighting for the bronze medal in Pool D of the Apcan Schools Rugby Series when they take on Germiston High School at 2pm this afternoon, hoping to build on their impressive victory over Carleton Jones High last week.

After initially struggling to find their feet in their original group, Pool C, Roodies were bumped down to Pool D, where they were able to bounce back from three defeats with a strong showing against a tough Carleton Jones High School side. Unfortunately, due to Roodepoort’s points tally from their original group, the hard-earned 21–5 victory over Carleton Jones wasn’t enough to lift them off the bottom of Pool D.

This means that despite having a superior points difference to Germiston, they finished one point behind the school which only this year reintroduced rugby as an extracurricular sport. Roodies do however have a chance to make one final stand this afternoon when they take on Germiston.

The third/ fourth place playoff for Pool D will be the first finals game of the day, and will be followed by the third/ fourth place playoff for Pool C between Hoërskool Kriel and Glenharvie High School. This will be followed by the gold final for Pool D, to be played between Carleton Jones and the Eagles, who remain undefeated.

It will then be the fifth/ sixth place playoff for Pool C between Hoërskool Die Adelaar and Bracken High School to be followed by the final game of the day, the gold final for Pool C between Bryanston High School, and Steelpipes.

The Pool A and B finals will be played be tomorrow, with Pool B’s third place playoff between Randpark Ridge High School and Carletonville High School first up at 2pm. To follow that will be Pool A’s third place playoff between Hoërskool Linden and Hoërskool Bergsig.

Finally will be Pool B’s gold final between Allen Glen High School and Hoërskool President at 4pm, just before the Pool A gold final between Hoërskool Florida and Hoërskool Bastion at 5pm.
