Witpoortjie’s Wilson wins bronze

‘It was a very competitive tournament’

The 25-year-old Wilson Malobolo participated in the recent Gauteng Open Bowling Championships, and did very well.

The tournament, which took place in Johannesburg, saw a large number of bowlers competing against each other for top honours. Wilson said, “I enjoyed the tournament very much. It was very tough and competitive, and I had to work very hard. I reached the semifinals in the singles category, and ended up winning a bronze medal.”

He added that they are now entering the off-season, which means that he will not be that busy. “Our league starts again in October, and I am looking forward to that,” Wilson said.

George Nysschen, the Club’s President, said, “We are very proud of Wilson’s achievement. He has been a member of the Club for the past eight years, and ever since he started bowling, he has continued to improve. He is also a junior Springbok, and I believe he has a lot of potential.”

The club boasts a 15-time National Champion, as well as a number of Provincial champions. George said, “We also have a blind member, Tracey Smith, who is doing extremely well.”

He added that they wanted to wish their U/30 teams good luck for their participation in the upcoming National Championships, which will be taking place in Pietermaritzburg.

For those who would like to better their game, or maybe want to learn how to play, coaching is offered, and George said that he is one of the qualified coaches who will always be prepared to assist.

He concluded by thanking the club’s and the Sables’ committees for their hard work and support during the past year.
