Runners in pyjamas took over Len Rutter park

Roodepoort parkrun's first pyjama run well supported

Len Rutter Park was filled with runners dressed in their various onesies and other sleepwear during the recent edition of the Roodepoort parkrun.

This was to support its very first pyjama run, and Adéle Enslin, the Event Director, explained, “The aim of the pyjama run was not only fun, but also to collect some much-needed winter goods for those who are less fortunate. We asked every runner to bring a winter’s item, such as a blanket, scarf, beanie, gloves, hot-water bottles and clothing as well as some non-perishable food.

We will distribute the donated items to local charities based on their needs list. We also gave some of the donated items to James, who is our caretaker. He lives on the premises and helps with maintenance.”

She added that the run was well supported and they will definitely make this an annual event. “It was awesome to see the support from everyone; one of the runners donated 50 blankets! We are very grateful for everyone’s positive attitude towards this event,” Adéle concluded.

Darryl Beckett completed his 100th parkrun in his giraffe onesie.

To add to the day’s excitement, a few runners reached some milestones as well, with Timothy Ressell, Sarah Nedouvhada and Tshekedi Komane completing their 50th runs.

Darryl Becket did not only reach an exceptional milestone by completing his 100th run, he totally embraced the theme of the day and came dressed in his giraffe onesie.

Indiana Dicks and Deanna Maraschin completed the parkrun in their onesies.
