Horizon Karateka selected for Africa Cup

'It is a huge achievement and I am extremely proud'

 

“It will take a lot of hard training and dedication from here, to ensure they will be ready to compete,” said Sensei Wendy Wannenburg.

Fourteen karateka from the Horizon Karate Centre were selected to participate in the Japanese Karate Association (JKA) African Cup, which will be taking place at the Ellis Park Arena on 1 September.

They were selected after their stellar performance at the JKA National Championships.

“It is a huge achievement to be chosen as part of a team where you will be representing your country against other African countries, and they will need to work very hard to become better,” she said.

The karateka who will be competing are:

• Nadine Parker

• Tyreece Billings

• Willie du Toit

• Elri Greyling

• Hope Kotze

• Aidan Marnewick

• Itanje Marnewick

• Crystal Poulter

• Galaletsang Rathebe

• Ruben Vorster
