ESS soccer coach shows that education is also important

He wants to set an example to the youngsters

The 23-year-old Junior Mwale, Area manager and coach at the Roodepoort Euro Soccer Schools (ESS), recently received a coaching award, as well as completed his university degree.

He has completed the Maxwell Varsity Management course, and explained, “This is a course that all ESS managers need to complete successfully, to ensure we remain part of the franchise. I have completed the course over three weekends. Besides this, I have also completed a Coerver Coaching course, which would ensure I can coach my players more effectively.”

But, he has not only been advancing his sporting skills, as he also completed his degree in Human Resource Management. “Completing my three-year studies and receiving my degree, was a very special moment for me, and I am very proud of the fact that I was able to complete my studies successfully,” he said.

For Junior, education has always been very important, and he explained why, “Not everyone can be a professional soccer player, and you need to have a back up plan. Soccer should be something you look forward to play over the weekends, it should not be your first priority.”

His message to young players are simple, “You need to focus on school, and not place all your eggs in one basket. If your soccer career does not work out, you need to have something else to fall back on.”

Junior is seen as a rolemodel for his players, and for him it is an honour, but also a big responsibility, and he said, “Being seen as a rolemodel, places a lot of responsibility on my shoulders, because, I have to behave in such a way that I set an example to those who look up to me, but also not disappoint them in any way.”
