Roodepoort parkrun attracts a large number of participants

Many milestones reached during event

 

More than 1 000 runners and walkers lined up at the Len Rutter Park recently for the 313th edition of the Roodepoort parkrun.

The Roodepoort parkrun is a two-lap, five-kilometre race which takes place on a weekly basis, and attracts runners of all ages and fitness levels.

Quite a few milestones were celebrated during this event, including the following:

• Keona Carpenter completed her 10th race

• Dominic Wagner, Nadine dos Santos, Chad Wright, Mziwakhe Cekwane, Lauren James, Elna Bresler, Tanya Roberts and Johannes Grib completed their 50th race

• William Diley, Leslie Richards and Neil Kruuze completed their 100th race

Thami Nyembe, who ran his 10th race, was the first male finisher, completing the race in a time of 18 minutes and 41 seconds.

Alison Barr was the first female finisher, completing the race in a time of 23 minutes and 33 seconds. Although this race was her 24th, it was her first in Roodepoort, as she is originally from Cape Town.
