Long distance runner keeps winning

Kaitlyn has shown potential over the years as she started running in grade one.

Kaitlyn du Plessis of Trinityhouse Preparatory School in Little Falls is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with in the athletics sporting code.

The Grade 5 learner and her best buddy, Suzanne Hartzer, have scooped up many accolades, awards and medals. This year alone, Kaitlyn dominated the cross-country races, beating her own personal best records and coming in first at a recent athletics meeting at Roodepoort Athletics Stadium. She also won first place at the recent D12 Championships.

Kaitlyn has shown potential over the years, as she started running in Grade 1. Her interest in the sport motivated her parents to enrol her to train with sports specialist, Phyllis de Fouw.

Last year, she qualified for the Gauteng Schools Cross-Country, where she ended in 12th position overall and also qualified to run the SA Club Cross-Country in Potchefstroom where she came in 29th. She also received the “Most consistent Junior Female” trophy for club running as well as the Cross-Country Junior Female U/10 Club Champion trophy, based on her school and club results, and two weeks ago she was rewarded for her efforts in the 2017 Club season.

“Running has taught me that I am capable of so much more than I ever imagined and Trinityhouse Preparatory Little Falls has taught me that the harder you work for something, the greater you will feel when you achieve it,” said Kaitlyn, praising her school.
