Team Dida unshaken after SA Boxing Awards loss

Local boxing coach and promoter speaks about the losses at SA Boxing Awards 2017

Dida Dipheko, Team Dida Boxing Promotion poster child, local boxing coach and promoter has not allowed his disappointment at the South African Boxing Awards to discourage him or his boxers in their pursuit of accolades and elite titles this year.

Dipheko and his team travelled to Port Elizabeth to attend the South African Boxing Awards 2017 at the Boardwalk Casino on 2 February.

Team Dida was nominated in two categories – Most Promising Promoter of the Year which they lost to Shereenen Hunter of Combat Sport and Events; and Male Fight of the Year, for the fight between Mpho ‘Turbo’ Seforo and Thabang ‘Pretty boy’ Ramagole, which they lost to IBO junior bantamweight championship match between Gideon ‘Hardcore’ Buthelezi and Angel Aviles. Dipheko congratulated those he was up against in the said categories.

Dipheko explained that although they had lost, they know they did their best, having hosted four title tournaments in 2017.

“We will keep doing what we do. We know we did the best thing because we staged four title tournaments, but I don’t know what they staged or [understand] the criterion that was used,” Dipheko cited.

Despite the loss, Dipheko indicated that they had loads of fun. His squad shared photos on social media, picturing them elegantly dressed for the occasion and mingling with some of their counterparts such as Bongani Gideon Buthelezi and Zolani ‘Last Born’ Tete who scooped up most of the categories, including Boxer of the Year.

“This year we are pumping even harder and doing things better than last year. Hopefully we will bring the world champion home,” said the unshakable Dipheko.
