More success for Steve at CGGU Senior Open

Ruimsig Country Club hosted the 2018 instalment of the Central Gauteng Golfing Union (CGGU) Senior Open on 3 and 4 February.

Steve Williams was the overnight leader on Saturday after carding a five under 67, with Graeme Watson two shots behind on 69. Andre van Dyk also ended Saturday on 69.

Sunday started out nice and cool, allowing the 96 golfers in the field to get off to a comfortable start.

Stephen Johnston and Neil West were the top two Ruimsig-based golfers, finishing tied eighth and tied tenth respectively.

Stephen was the best-placed Ruimsig-based player after carding 71 on the first day.

Graeme Watson finished second after two rounds of good golf at this year’s Central Gauteng Golfing Union (CGGU)’s Senior Open.

He unfortunately dropped four shots on Sunday to finish at three over par while Neil played consistent golf, shooting a two over 74 on both days to end at four over par.

While Graeme and Steve continued their form, Andre did not have the best of Sundays, carding a four over 76 to end on one over par and tied fifth.

Steve never looked like he was going to relinquish the lead, staying three shots ahead for most of the day.

Graeme also played good golf despite the pressure of having to chase Steve and managed to card a one under 71 to finish outright second at four under par.

Steve shot a two under 70 on Sunday to ensure he kept the trophy after finishing at seven under the par for the tournament.
