ESS officially launches in Roodepoort

'All players are welcome to join, as we want to create elite football players.'

Even though the weather tried to interfere, the Euro Soccer Schools (ESS) launch was well attended by prospective players of all ages.

“Despite the early morning rain, there were quite a few people attending our launch and first training session. We have also had quite a few players registering to become members, and I would say the future of Roodepoort ESS looks promising,” said Junior Mwale, ESS Area Manager.

The day’s activities included warm-up exercises, as well as passing, dribbling, defending and attacking skills, and Junior explained, “We mainly focused on the physical side of the game, because we have noticed that South African players have the necessary skills, but are pushed around by other teams because they are not physical enough.”

He added that the main objective of the training sessions is to offer the children an alternative activity, and it also acts as a way to keep them off the streets and prevent them from participating in unsavoury activities.

“We offer them the opportunity to play matches, not just at home, but away too. This way they get the chance to meet new people and make friends as well. We will also have an U/9, U/12 and U/16 South African ESS team that will be competing for the London Cup in England next year,” said Junior.

Junior emphasised that they are not an Elite Academy, and players of all ages, genders and skill sets are welcome to join them. He said, “We are not looking for professional players, but welcome anyone who has a passion and love for the sport, as we want to create elite players for the future. Everyone who forms part of the club is not only a payer, but a family member and are treated accordingly.”
