RCC hosts first long drive competition of the year

January's long drive competition, the first of the year, was thoroughly enjoyed by all involved.

The first ‘Grip it and Rip it’ long drive competition of the year at Ruimsig Country Club teed off on Friday, 26 January.

The competitions, played at night with a flight track simulator are always hotly contested as every competitor does his or her level best to out-drive the rest.

The competition is teed off from the balcony of the clubhouse on a synthetic grass mat, with a simulator used to track every aspect of each golfer’s swing and the ball’s flight pattern.

The competition was divided into five divisions; namely, the Super Junior Division, the Junior Division, the Open Division, the Senior Division, and the Ladies Division.

This was done in order to ensure fair competition for all participants, as the distance differences between the divisions are often rather large.

At the end of the evening, Jean Marais won the Super Junior Division and Grant Labuschagne won the Junior Division. Trevor Labuschagne was crowned the Open Division winner, Gavin Martin walked off as the Senior Division winner and finally, Michelle Craig was the Ladies Division winner.

The evening was one full of fun and mirth, and is one monthly event you might want to add to your calendar.

The next ‘Grip it and Rip it’ competition will take place on 23 February.
