Tornado Football Club (FC) is based in the Thabo Mbeki informal settlement (known to its residents as the Lion Park informal settlement) in Lanseria.
About 30 boys and girls made the long trip from the settlement to Ruimsig Country Club (RCC) where the founder and coach of Tornado FC, Matthews Ngozo, is the resident groundsman, to attend a party hosted by the RCC Tennis Division.
Matthews has worked at RCC for nearly 30 years, despite living so far away from the club.
The children were welcomed with cool drinks, hot dogs, sweets and snacks, and most importantly, broad smiles from the RCC Tennis Division members.
The children took part in various activities, including French cricket and one-touch football and even played a couple of games against each other.
They thoroughly enjoyed the party, and were also given little lucky packets as they left to make their way home.
“We are extremely thankful for this party today. You guys are just amazing,” Matthews told the sponsors on behalf of his footballers.
