One more race to glory for Young Guns

The final event will be held at Carnival City from 20 to 21 October.

Richard Leeke Junior, a rally driver from Honeydew is one step closer to cementing his name in the South African National Rally Championship history books to become the youngest ever driver to triumph in the competition overall.

The 21-year-old has broken records with his co-driver Henry Köhne (29) for nailing elite competitions in their careers which earned them their famous name the ATS Motorsport Young Guns in the sporting circles.

Leeker, the former Trinityhouse High School learner, is currently leading the SA National Rally Champion overall and is left with only one round (race) to go, which is anticipated to be one of the most exciting conclusions of the championship in recent years if he wins overall.

The final event will be held at Carnival City Rally from 20 to 21 October.

“If he wins overall, he will have achieved a remarkable double this year and become the youngest-ever winner of a national championship rally (which he achieved a couple of months back) and the youngest-ever winner of the championship,” said Adrian Burford from Roadworx Communications.

Leeker began his love for the sport at the age of 10. He and his partner have participated in the VW Rally series in Port Elizabeth early this year, where they earned their top spot after out-staging their counterparts during the competition.
