Parkies’ cricket off to blazing start
Parkies had a great start to the cricket season
Earlier this month Florida Park High School’s cricket team squared off against Hoërskool Vorentoe for their opening match of the season.
Parkies captain Nathan Bobraine won the toss and decided to bat first. After a rocky start, losing three wickets with only 12 runs on the score board, Nathan and Aqueel Hardien steadied the innings and together registered a partnership of 104 runs. The captain scored 69 runs while Aqueel scored 35. The partnership steered Florida Park to a total of 129 runs in 20 overs, losing six wickets. Vorentoe went in to bat and soon the wickets started to fall. Zubair Mondell took a five-wicket haul and helped to limit Vorentoe to a score of 101 runs in 20 overs. This resulted in Parkies winning the match by 28 runs. They followed up that victory with an even better performance against King’s School West Rand.
The match against King’s School occurred days later and it was King’s who won the toss and elected to bowl first. Batsman Sebastian Bester opened the batting and provided support for his team for 13 overs. His performance helped his team score a respectable 188 runs from 20 overs. With a score to chase, King’s School sent their openers to the crease. Parkies bowlers were wasted no time in tearing through the batting lineup and bowled them out for 49 runs. Parkies won the match by 139 runs.
