Talented youngster excels in water

Young swimmer a force to watch out for

Jordan Bresler is an up-and-coming talent from Florida Swimming Club. The 13-year-old has had a stellar year, winning eight medals at the recent SA Nationals Shortcourse championships in Pietermaritzburg and the SA Senior National Aquatics Championships in Durban. Jordan is also a para-division swimmer and competes in the disabled category. She was given a S13 classification last year because one of her arms has fused bones which make it hard for her to rotate her hand in the water.

Jordan started swimming competitively two years ago and also excels in athletics and running.

“I swam when I was young just to learn, but then I stopped because I didn’t enjoy it. I then started to swim for the school and I enjoyed it.

I met coach Tracey Hemphill and trained with her. I enjoy being in the water, it’s a different feeling but I enjoy it a lot more than doing land sports,” she said.

Jordan has been short-listed to participate in a gala in Kenya in February next year. To prepare for that, she has set the upcoming club competitions and national galas in December as her goals.

“My aim is to improve my times even further and qualify for nationals next year as well. To do well is a good feeling. I can see that all my hard work is paying off. All the hours that I’ve felt like giving up but didn’t are rewarded. Swimming is my sport and it’s my home so I hope to be involved with it for a very long time,” she said.
