Prestige take on ETS at home

Results from the battle between Prestige and ETS this weekend

Prestige Football Academy were at home to ETS Football Academy at Hoërskool Die Burger this weekend. The day’s fixtures started with the U/13 teams taking each other on in the most exciting match of the day.

As soon as the referee blew his whistle for the start of the match, the home team (Prestige) went on the attack, looking for goals. They used their size advantage, especially in their forward movement, outpacing and out-muscling their ETS counterparts.

Exploiting the defensive frailties of ETS on the right, Prestige’s attacking wingers bombarded ETS and it was only a matter of time before the scales tipped in favour of Prestige. Prestige scored two quick goals coming in from the left, forcing ETS to make some changes in the back. This proved to be a good decision as this stemmed the free flow of Prestige’s attack.

However, ETS continued to lose possession of the ball which allowed Prestige to continue threatening the opposition. Prestige scored another goal to make it 3–0 but then conceded a penalty, which ETS converted into a goal.

This gave them a lifeline heading into the halftime break. In the second half, proceedings were much tougher as both teams were fighting hard to score first in the second half. A long-range effort in midfield from a Prestige Academy player went into the back of the net to make the score 4–1. But that was not all – the score quickly became 5–1 after a quick-paced counter-attack from Prestige saw the ball rattling the net once again.

The U/13 team is still in second spot on the SAFA Academy League table.

Coach Siphamandla Mthethwa was happy with his team’s performance and said that although they are high on the log, that was not the most important thing.

“I was very impressed with the U/13 boys today, as it was a brilliant response to last week’s loss.

What is more important to me than the victory is how the boys are playing on the field and applying what they have learned in training. I was also impressed at their finished and how buoyant their attitude was after their previous loss,” he said.

The U/15, team which is also coached by Siphamandla, beat their ETS counterparts 3–2 while Prestige’s U/17s narrowly beat ETS 1–0. The only Prestige team to lose on the day was the U/19s, with a final score of 2–1 to ETS.
