Florida team out in group stages
Cricket team falls in group stages
Florida Cricket Club’s U/15 team faced off against Parktown Boys cricket team recently. It was the final match for Florida in the group stages of the Lenasia Premier League.
Florida won the toss and elected to field first. The opening partnership of Parktown’s Mohamed Patel and Kellen Strydom, worth 36 runs, laid the foundation for the team to reach 108 runs for a loss of five wickets. Florida’s Joshua Petzer was the best bowler for the team with three wickets at a cost of 20 runs. Akhil Araf and Mohamed Qureshi contributed with a wicket each.
Florida’s run chase got off to a difficult start as Darian de Bruin and Mohamed Zaid Ishmail opened the batting. The duo had registered 19 runs on the board when Mohamed was adjudged lbw (leg before wicket) for six runs. Joshua joined Darian at the crease but he too did not last as he fell after registering three runs on the board. Darian lost his wicket three balls later for a score of 14 runs. Liam le Grange and Zaid Essop held up the innings in the middle and the duo scored 17 and 27 runs respectively. However, even their hard-earned runs could not help get Florida over the line. The team fell short of their target of 108 runs by two runs. This saw the team eliminated from the Lenasia Premier League.
