The South African Canoe Marathon Championships took place in Pietermaritzburg earlier this month, a preparation race for the upcoming World Marathon Championships that will take place there in September.
A number of juniors were among the paddlers selected to represent Gauteng at the national event, including Discovery’s David Brown, a member of the Florida Lake Canoe Club.
Ameerah Hank won a gold medal in the U/12 girls race, while her sister Kamilah achieved a third place in the doubles event for girls U/14.
David finished in fifth position overall in the competitive boys U/12 age category while Sisanda Mthabela was seventh in her U/14 race.
