Its almost time for the Wilro Cycle race

This year's race expected to be a big one

The annual Wilro Lions Cycle Race’s 19th instalment is around the corner, and the club is asking the community’s help to fill their goodie bags.

“Our cycle race is a charity event and we want to make up goodie bags that will be given to each cyclist who has entered the race.

We usually include juices, energy drinks, water, creams, ointments, sun block, lip balm, energy sweets, peaked caps and anything else a cyclist would enjoy or make use of in the bags, and are asking the community to help us fill these bags with donations. This is an excellent way of promoting a company, especially if it is in any way related to cycling, sport, healthy living or just the great outdoors,” said Sandy van Heerden, the Public Relations Officer for the club.

She added that they will also be having a number of lucky draws, and would appreciate any donations that can be used as a spot prize. “We are expecting a bumper year and are hoping to reach our target of 2 000 cyclists, however, any number of items would be appreciated. We are also planning to have a first, second and third bigger prize, such as a weekend away, meal vouchers and more,” she said.

She said that they would gladly put flyers into the goodie bags which will be distributed on the day, in return for any donations or sponsorships.

The Wilro Lions Cycle Challenge will be taking place on 5 November at the Tarlton International Raceway, and is a big event on the Lions Club of Wilro Park’s calendar. “This is one of our major fundraising projects and all the money we raise goes back to our communities in the form of our service projects, which include our Annual Education Bursary, the Lions’ Sensory Garden for the Blind at the Botanical Gardens, Johnson B House at Gateway Village, Guide dogs for the Blind, our monthly food parcels, our annual Cancer Awareness projects and much more – we have even being known to build a house!” said Sandy.

She concluded by saying, “We would really appreciate any support we can get from the community – no matter how big or small.”
