Allen Glen makes history, again

Allen Glen High School rugby boys have done it again and have made school history.

In a year of excellent sporting achievements, Allen Glen High School has once again made history with their first team rugby boys winning the Golden Lions Trophy in the open category.

This was the first time in the school’s history that its first team had won the trophy and will go on to play for the Beeld Trophy. The team mainly consists of last year’s U/16 squad with only five senior players, meaning Allen Glen will continue to dominate on the rugby field after this year.

Head of the school’s sports department, Hennie van Vuuren, said the U/14 and U/16 sides have won the trophy in the past but now it was time for the U/15s and senior side to have the honour.

Captain of the team, Cameron Mackrill, said, “It was the best feeling to win the trophy for the first time in the school’s history. We are proud to represent Allen Glen High School.”

Hennie added the first team is yet to lose a game in their current tournaments and hopes they will continue to achieve and step up to the plate again next year.
