Judoka excel at championships

 

West Rand Judo Association Judoka were out to prove themselves among the best and gain experience at a high level. They won medals at the South African Open Judo Championships earlier this month. The national tournament was held in the Callie Human Hall at the University of the Free State.

Ruan Delport won three medals during the tournament – a silver medal in the individual category, a silver medal for kata and a bronze medal in the team event. Ferdi van den Heever won a silver medal in the team event and another silver for kata. Ruhan Terblanchè won two bronze medals for kata, a silver medal in the individual category and another silver in the team event. Dylan de Lange won a gold medal in the individual category and another gold in the team event. Aiden Stacey-Hale won a bronze medal for kata.

West Rand Judo Association chairperson and coaching coordinator Katja Bruwer said she was proud of her team’s performance during the tournament and that their success proved that the hard work they had put into training paid off.
