Delfos get the victory

Preparing for upcoming season

The Delfos U/13 Development cricket team recently took on the St Peters Stars U/13 Development team at the Cecil Payne Sports Stadium. Delfos went in to bat first. Their star batsman, Divan Spangenberg, was the mainstay of the team, putting on a stellar performance as he reached 87 not out. Towards the end of the innings, Jethro Pike knocked 27 runs to take Delfos’ score to 205 for five wickets. Stars’ best bowler was Jason Rowles, who took one wicket in four overs, conceding just 17 runs. It was then the visitors’ turn to chase the total.

Stars started off well but the bowling of Delfos made things difficult. However, Stars managed to get to 130 runs for four wickets thanks to the batting of Jordan Cross, who scored 56 runs before being bowled out. With the result still hanging in the balance, it was young seam bowler, Dylan Tait, who produced some magic for his team. He took a hat-trick, sending three dangerous batsmen back to the sidelines in short order. With just three wickets left, it was easy pickings for the rest of the Delfos bowlers, who finished off the match within minutes. Stars finished the match with a score of 155 runs.

Stars’ coach, Donavan Robertson, was happy with the way his team showed their fighting spirit.

“It was a great warm-up match, our batting and fielding fared well. We also had a few outstanding performances which will leave us in good stead going towards the season next month.”

Delfos’ coach, Danny Legae echoed his counterparts’ sentiments and added that he was happy the team played well and enjoyed every moment of being on the field.irit.
