Visions Gymnasts “impressionar” in Portugal

Gymnasts impress in Portugal

Gymnasts Ruan Lange, Riccardo Colandrea, Burhaan Mia and Daniel McLean jetted off to Portugal with coach Kevin Basson and judge Eben Marais recently. The gymnasts, from Visions Gymnastics, were on their way to participate in the Gym Sport competition. Ruan and Riccardo are no strangers to the competition, having participated in it last year. Ruan was ranked 10th overall and won a bronze medal in the final.

Riccardo was not to be outdone as he put last year’s experience at the competition to good use. He qualified for four of six apparatus finals and on the second day, he placed first on the horizontal bar and second on the rings. He finished the competition in fourth position overall.

The experienced duo was accompanied by Burhaan and Daniel, who were both competing in an international competition for the first time. Burhaan, who finished 24th overall, said it was a good, fun feeling to be stepping up on the big international stage. Daniel qualified for the horizontal bar and was a reserve for the floor. In his first competition, he finished ranked 30th overall.

Derrick Scholtz, who coaches the boys at the club, said he was pleased with their performances.
