Inyala’s aim is spot on

Get your bows ready

The Inyala Archery Club has not let their deadly aim get turn to rust this season as they aim to be one of the best clubs in the province. Head coach Magda has been working tirelessly to impart her knowledge of archery to all her members. However, she admits it has been hard raising the level of playing standards.

“When your most senior archers go to high school they tend to have trouble with transportation and other extra-curricular activities. That is why it’s so tough to have a more competitive team, because those that are ready and able don’t stick around,” she said.

The club has proven their ability to compete with the best by qualifying for the Gauteng provincial team which will compete in Namibia later this year. The team will also participate in the inter-provincial competition which will see the best archers from the countrys provinces going head to head. This will allow aces such as their ace Magdel Wilhelm to unleash their full potential and sparkle on the big stage.

”Our club has been growing in leaps and bounds and it has been wonderful pushing the archers and make them work hard. They have not onto new heights. This bodes well for the clubs longevity,”

However Magda still wants to involve children in archery and build towards a permanent senior team that will not be affected by the graduation to high school.

Eric Cloete is a passionate about the sport and picked up his first bow two years ago. Since then he has not looked back, helping his team achieve glory in various top competitions.

“The allure of bow and arrow was too much for me and before I knew it I was part of the team. I want to be the best and finish on top. That is why I am also assisting my fellow teammates to reach that goal,” said Eric.

“This is a fantastic outdoor sport for children instead of staying at home and not being active at all. With us, they get to socialize and importantly unearth a skill they were unaware of. They must get off the couch and learn life skills and lesions that are tought in team sports such as archery,”said Magda.

Inyala Archery Club trains weekly at the Werna Fields in Laerskool Dr Havinga. For more information contact Magda on 082 712 5744.
