The parents of two young boys who hope to travel to Spain and play in the Donosti Cup competition are hosting a fundraiser called Action Sports Open Tournament. The beneficiaries are Tashreeq Isaacs and Jaden Watson who were selected to be part of the Boys U/14 Rand Central LFA Football team after playing trials.
Tashreeq and Jaden impressed selectors and the boys are determined to use this opportunity to improve themselves as soccer players.
Jaden who also plays for FC Real, a soccer academy based in Panorama, has been playing soccer since the age of eight. He was very excited and happy to learn that he would have a chance to travel to Spain. This is where his favourite team Real Madrid is based and he hopes to one day play in the biggest soccer leagues in Europe.
“This will be an opportunity of a lifetime because I dream of having my name mentioned in the same breath as some of the biggest soccer stars. But I know in order for that to happen I need to work hard, put in extra effort, pray and trust in God,” he said.
The young player loves the challenges soccer provides for him and said the game allows him to forget the world around him and just enjoy playing.
Jaden and Tashreeq are teammates at FC Real. The duo started high school this year and they are happy to juggle their school work and field time.
Tashreeq was relieved to be part of the team going to Spain and said that his selection proved his hard work and diligence are paying off. The young player has big dreams of becoming a national hero, wearing the captain’s armband and representing Bafana Bafana in pursuit of glory. Tashreeq gets his inspiration from South African player Keagan Dolly who plies his trade in France.
“I want to make my family proud, so I was happy to have made the team. I see this as a way to broaden my horizons. I love playing soccer because of the atmosphere and how it frees my mind and takes me to a better place. It makes me happy to just play,” he said.
The fundraiser will feature soccer, cricket and volleyball. It will take place at the Ontdekkers Astro and Sports Centre.
