Florida Running Club athletes’ successes

Runners excel in various formats

The Florida Running Club is one of the most successful clubs on the West Rand. Its members don’t restrict themselves to participating in road races but actively challenge themselves on other fronts. From triathlons and iron man competitions to even more gruelling sports activities, the athletes push themselves to the limits.

With the aim of testing his endurance and lactic-acid levels, Florida’s Dawood Cassim participated in the Kosmos 3-in-1, which is three runs in a day. The objective of the three-race series is to run all three distances on the same day: a total of 73.3 kilometres.

In the morning, Dawood ran 42,2km in a time of 3:17:0. He had to do half of it again in the afternoon when he did the 21,1km race, which he finished in a time of 1:43. The last race of the day was a 10km run, with Dawood crossing the finish line in 50 minutes. This gave him an overall time of 5:50, finishing the competition in 26th position among hundreds of runners.

“It was my first time participating in such as race and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The camaraderie on the road was amazing,” he said.

Ian Smith excelled when he recently participated in The Otter African Trail Run and finished in third position in his category. He also participated in the 51 50 Bela Bela Ironman triathlon. He finished the race in first position. Ian also proved he was one to beat when he finished in second place in the 100km Sky Run.
