Team Rage on the move

Team Rage

It has been a mere two months since Team Rage Kickboxing Club moved from the Witpoortjie Recreation Centre to the Roodepoort CBD. Since then, its members have enjoyed a much more relaxed atmosphere, owing to a bigger space to train and flexible training schedules. Coach Darin Opperman is pleased with the arrangements at his new club and is inviting more people to join the club.

“We are doing better and have less stress, because we have more time to train now. We have a five-days-a-week schedule which works perfectly as we can give more attention to our beginners. Our school age members can focus more on school work especially during exam time without worrying.”

The club has also introduced a new bully-proofing programme designed for school children. The purpose of the programme is to teach the children how to stand up for themselves against bullies, and how to react and deal with bullying situations.

“Self-confidence is very important in dealing with bullies, especially when it gets physical. We teach the children how to fall if a bully pushes them and how to protect themselves without hurting anyone,” said Darin.

Professional fighter Fred Lourens has also joined the club and has been hard at work training to peak fitness. He is getting ready for an upcoming fight in Cape Town later this month.

“Some of our senior athletes such as Dyllan Opperman and Karin van Jaarsveldt have become more focused now especially after their experience at the World Championships. With the new club, we can separate our senior and beginner athletes which means our training is not set. We can tailor a training session according to the athlete’s needs,” said Darin.

The club has also been lucky enough to have helping hands in the form of Fred and Antoinette, who have qualified to become instructors.
