Florida XI beats Alexandra XI

Florida victorious

Florida Cricket Club’s second team took on their counterparts from Alexandra earlier this month. The Sunday match was part of the Second XI’s Sunday Three League fixtures.

Alexandra won the toss and decided to bowl first as conditions were favourable for the new ball. Florida’s Jabulani Khwezi and Matthew Vickers opened the batting, bravely facing the bowling attack of Alexandra. The duo dug in at the crease and made a first wicket stand of 39 runs before Jabulani was adjudged out, leg-before-wicket (LBW) with his personal score at 15 runs off 29 balls.

Next up, and joining Matthew at the crease, was Michael Pfab. However, he didn’t last long, being bowled out in just six balls, leaving the scoreboard on 57 for 2.

Vantonio Fisher was next to bat and made a valiant attempt to solidify the Florida innings. But before long, Matthew was caught out, on 33 runs off 63 balls. Vantonio, Melvin Moonsamy and Augusto Moosa helped Florida reach a total of 168 runs for the loss of six wickets. Vantonio knocked 45 runs off 63 balls, including two boundaries and three sixes. Melvin scored a laboured 19 runs off 51 balls to assist his team to reach a defendable total, while Augusto scored a quick 17 runs off 14 balls.

With a target of 169 runs to win, Alexandra fell far short of their target, reaching a mere 127 all out off 25.5 overs. Florida’s Micheal Pfab had the best bowling figures of the match, taking three wickets for 29 runs while Akhil Araf also claimed three wickets, but was more expensive as he conceded 41 runs. Jabulani took two wickets in one over without conceding a single run and Augusto took a single wicket for 24 runs.
