HONEYDEW – Eagle Canyon Golf Club aims to fill its field for a good cause at the upcoming Kingsway Centre of Concern Golf Day.
Funds raised from the golf day on 11 May will go to Kingsway Centre of Concern, a non-profit organisation that assists underprivileged children from Zandspruit informal settlement, through the Kingsway Christian School in Randpark Ridge and Thandanani House of Refuge in Zandspruit.

“For four years we have been running a social responsibility programme with the centre, where children come and learn golf for free,” said the club’s director of golf, Dave Christie.
“The best children come for further free coaching and tournaments so we can develop their skills and give them more opportunities later in life.”

It was through this programme that a relationship between the club and the centre was established, and it was decided that Eagle Canyon would take over the centre’s annual golf day.
The golf day will follow a four-ball alliance format with a prize-giving dinner afterwards. The entrance fee is R2 800 per four-ball team or R3 500 for a four-ball with hole sponsorship. The cost includes green fees, golf carts, halfway house vouchers, and the prize-giving dinner.

“The children who have gone for golf coaching are doing well, and will one day play at one of the golf days,” said Marelise Bekker, fundraising and marketing coordinator for the centre.
“The golf day will be of huge benefit to us as the money will go towards the running costs of the school and Thandanani.”
