The 27-year-old has been making a name for herself as a dancer, placing third on So You Think You Can Dance. She won both Shield Teens and Turn it Out competitions and starred for choreographer Hayley Bennet. She also participated in music videos for artists like Spoek Mathambo, Oskido and DJ Switch. She decided to venture into music to expand her creativity.

“Music has always been my first love but I never had confidence in my singing. I was always an introvert hence I named my album launch Mustard Seed. I used to dance and communicate through my dancing, that is how I expressed how I felt. Now I have grown and have more faith and confidence in myself. I’ve always had the voice but preferred dance to express myself,” she said.

Robyn’s album features songs dedicated to her son and the love of her life. To produce the album, she worked with one of South Africa’s up and coming artist Kimosabe whom Robyn described as immensely talented.

“Kimosabe has worked with the country’s top artists such as Cassper Nyovest and DJ Clock. He is very modest about his work and he played a big role in the production and music selection. I write songs but because this was my first album, I just wanted to focus on my performance and vocals before showing everyone I can write too,” said Robyn.

She wants to be an inspiration to others and aims to prove that fear can be overcome.

Robyn Brophy released her debut album Just Robyn.

“I am scared of taking this step but I believe you can only do great things by conquering your fear. If I overcome that, things will go much better. That is why some talented artists don’t succeed – they don’t even try because they’re scared. I want to take this step to inspire others. That is why I want to be an effective performer, not just a performer. I want to show that it’s not about the fame but about growing and having faith and belief in yourself,” she said.

With experience in various television competitions and the rising success of her single, Robyn still aims to remain humble and not forget the hard work that has put her name on the map.

“Sometimes I can’t believe it. Some artists don’t like hearing or watching themselves. That’s the feeling I get but I must say there’s an overwhelming feeling of gratitude. I am truly grateful. I want people to feel my music and learn something from it, to appreciate and believe in South African music,” she said.
