Grade 1s recieve active introduction to sport

RADIOKOP – Grade 1s get their hearts pumping for sport.

Grade 1s of Charterhouse Preparatory School took to the sports field to learn about all the extracurricular activities the school has to offer.

“To be in Grade 1 is fun, but one can become overwhelmed when you have to choose an extramural activity to participate in, especially when you have no idea what it entails. For this reason, Charterhouse hosts an annual introduction to extramural day for the Grade 1 children,” said teacher, Murray Hansen.

The extramural activities offered at the school include hockey, soccer, netball, tennis, cricket, softball, choir, drama, marimbas and chess.

“The day was filled with interesting activities by our coaches, which has led to a problem. The Grade 1 children now want to participate in everything. Luckily the extramural activities are spread over four terms.”

According to Hansen, tennis was the flavour of the day.

After two-and-a-half hours of activities, the Grade 1s ended their day with a snack and juice.

“We wish the Grade 1 children a happy active year ahead.”
