The festival was a day for the SAFA (South African Football Association) and CAF (Confederation of African Federation)-accredited coaches to brush up the young players’ skills.

Stations were set up to coach in dribbling, passing, man-marking, defending and attacking and team work, and players had a chance to experience each of these stations. The club’s media and marketing spokesperson, Jeremy Govender, said the objective of the day was to have fun, brush up on skills and find potential players for the club which has been going strong for 80 years.

“Our purpose has always been to find new players and get them off the street and doing something productive. We have highly qualified coaches who will bring out the best in each player, and today is no different. They will be teaching the youngsters various soccer skills which lay the foundation of becoming a good player,” he said.

The club has more than 500 registered players from the U/4 level to the senior level and the club’s chairman, Trevor Niemack, is currently undergoing his training for a SAFA A licence.

Jeremy, who has been part of the club for 20 years, said the fees the club charges are of the lowest on the West Rand.

“The club has great facilities to offer, such as multiple playing fields which are open for the players to use and top level coaches who help the players improve. We have practice sessions every week and games during weekends. We also have secure parking for parents and the community who want to come and support our teams,” he said.
