Warriors Ringball set for new year

Ready to take on the new year

Last year was a spectacular year for the Warriors Ringball Club as they proved themselves to be one of the best on the West Rand. Their Senior Men’s team finished in third position on the West Rand Ringball League table; the Senior Women’s team finished in fourth position, and the juniors won their league. The league consists of teams from West Rand areas such as Krugersdorp, Carletonville and Randfontein. The club also produced various provincial and national team players who sparked last year at the Ringball National Championships.

The club’s chairperson, Bertus Botha, was pleased with how his players excelled last year and said he hopes those experiences will prepare the players to do even better.

“We had a few players from our club chosen to be captains in the national teams and I was extremely proud of their achievements. This club is the former Witpoortjie Ringball Club and we improved it to such a level, it’s amazing,” he said.

Now the club will be focusing on the upcoming season which commences in the first week of March. Training has already started and Botha expressed their aims for the coming season.

“We have four courts of adequate standards, so our aim is to make full use of them. To do so, we will need to recruit players for our U/13 and U/15 teams. This falls in line with our aim of growing the sport in the area. Our club has the biggest number of junior players in the West Rand. We want to promote the sport to those who don’t have access to courts and reach out to those who come from disadvantaged backgrounds,” he said.

Botha added that parent participation is also important to support not only their children but all the athletes, to boost confidence and morale.

The club trains on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7pm to 8.30pm. For more information on the club, contact Bertus on 083 772 5540 or Adrie Botha on 062 026 3005.
