King’s School’s interhouse sporting success

The King's School's overwhelming participation at their annual inter-house sports day.

The King’s School West Rand has proved that the institution does not only aim to produce excellent academic results but also aims to produce world-class sports enthusiasts.
This, after the school hosted its annual end-of-the-year inter-house sports event for the intermediate phase (grades 4–6).
The pupils, dressed according to the colours of their respective houses: Jasper (red), Emerald (green), Sapphire(blue) and Topaz (yellow), braved the scorching heat and battled it out in different sporting codes.

Some of the sports included indoor soccer for both boys and girls as well as netball and hockey.
The school’s sports administrator and first-team hockey coach AndrĂ© Berrange, said he was excited to see pupils enjoying hockey. He explained that the school did very well in all hockey competitions in the district.
“Overall we did exceptionally well in the season. Eight of our boys were selected to represent the district,” Berrange elaborated.
To ensure maximum participation and overwhelming support from other pupils, vice principal and extramural operator, John Theunissen, said the event catered for every pupil in the school.

“The heart is to increase the exposure of sports to pupils who normally don’t participate. The key is mass participation through this programme and developing our school spirit,” said Theunissen.
