Imposing performance at judo champs

Judoka excel at championship

The advanced judoka from KJK-Katja Judo Club excelled at a recent competition where they represented their province and club. Judoka from across the country’s nine provinces descended on the Portuguese Hall in Turffontein to compete in the South African Schools Judo Championships earlier this month.

Shawwal Bagaria and Carlin Anthoney each won a gold medal in the age group 13 to 14. Nine-year-old Tayla Stacey-Hale won a gold medal in her age category followed by 12-year-old Ruhan Tereblanche who also won a gold medal. Ferdinand van den Heever and Christelle Goliath each won a silver medal in the age group 13 to 14. Aiden Cronje won a bronze medal in the category for 10-year-olds.

Coach Katja Bruwer said she is proud of the number of judoka who came back from the competition with medals.

“This competition is where the novices gain exposure and experience, while the seniors get to polish up their skills. Other judoka from our club who participated narrowly missed out on podium finishes but that will motivate them to do even better at the next competition,” she said.
