The umpires for the match were from Laerskool Dr Havinga and Maragon Schools. They were tasked with keeping matters fair as each team had 25 overs an innings. Horison were the first to bat and were bowled all out for 114 runs in 24 overs and two balls. Jaco Herbst was the mainstay of the innings, knocking 27 runs off 53 balls. Helderkruin’s bowler Damian Mollentze was the chief destroyer of his opponents, returning with figures of 4 wickets for 18 runs in just five overs. With a target of 114 runs, Helderkruin’s batsmen wasted no time chasing down the total. Divan Swart carried his bat (not out) with a score of 47 runs, helping his team reach their target with five wickets to spare. Horison’s best bowler was Christiaan Botus who took one wicket for 22 runs in five overs. Helderkruin’s victory left their coaches Raynard Snyman and Neil Dreyer very proud of their charges.

“We had a good season, only losing one match, and finished top of the league standings. We have great talent in this team comprised of Grade 6 and Grade 7 pupils. I am proud and happy they have become champions,” said Dreyer.

Their thoughts were echoed by Horison’s coach Dillon van Wyk who added that next season will be even better for his team.

“This is the first team I have ever coached so to be in the final for us was already a blessing. Throughout the season I told my players to go out and enjoy themselves and that is what they did. Now we will have a solid platform to build on for next season,” he said.
