Coert’s Race to Q- School

Golfers ready for action

The First ERPM Race to Q-School was hosted at the ERPM Golf Club in Boksburg earlier this month. Local golfer Coert Groenewald was in fine form as he tied for fourth place, earning 2 636 points.

In Round 1, Coert shot three birdies on the par 5 hole 2, par 3 hole 12 and par 5 hole 17. He balanced that out with two bogeys. However, his efforts still saw him trailing leaders Kyle Barker and Dean O’Reilley.

In the second round, Kyle returned an even-par 72 to finish one shot behind Dean and a stroke ahead of former IGT Tour champion, Coert, who also posted 68. Coert sank five birdies and two bogeys on the par 4 hole 6 and par 4 hole 9.

The stakes were high in the final round as Coert scored three birdies and three bogeys, and finished in fourth place. He tied with Ruhan van Dijk while Dean put on one of the classiest performances of the season and closed with a flawless final round seven-under-par 65 to triumph at ERMP Golf Club.

Dean was one clear at the beginning of the final round, but clinical execution saw him finish with a 14 under par 202, a magnificent six shots clear of his closest challenger, Kyle, who finished in second place, closing with a 70, his best finish this season.

The golfers are now looking forward to the Waterkloof, States Mines and Kyalami events this month, where they will collect more points.
