Top WWE wrestler in town

Top wrestler coming to Roodepoort

Die-hard WWE fans are in for a treat this weekend as superstar Justin Gabriel will be in Roodepoort. He will be going toe to toe against the Lion of Africa, Ananzi at an event hosted by the WWP at the Danie Van Zyl Recreation Centre.

The two last met in 2008 in Randfontein where the match ended in a no-contest. Ananzi went on to start his own wrestling business while Gabriel signed a developmental contract with WWE, assigned to Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW). He is a three-times WWE tag-team champion and has won the TNA King of the Mountain Championship. Last year the South African Professional Wrestling News magazine named Gabriel along with long-time friend Ananzi as South Africa’s best wrestlers.

The two wrestlers will be the main event on a day when an over-the-top-rope battle royale will see a new APWA champion crowned. The title was vacated last month when wrestler John Axel became the wrestling association’s general manager. Loudmouth will be another wrestler to watch on Sunday as he’s still seething at the beat-down he received at the hands of Hector Payne and The Crow last month. Ananzi is excited about the clash this weekend and called it the most anticipated pro wrestling match in South African wrestling history.

“Not since the days of the Jan Wilkens and Percy Hall clashes, and the Danie Voges and Danie Britz clashes has a match been so eagerly anticipated. I’m urging wrestling fans to get their tickets early,” he said.

The show takes place on 2 October at 2pm. Doors open at 1pm. Tickets for the show will be R40. Food and beverages will be sold.
