Cold and wet Leases Classic

32nd Leases Bowling Classic

Bowlers braved the cold and wet conditions as the finals of the 32nd Leases Classic took place on Sunday, 22 September.

The competition was hosted at the Leases Bowling Club and various Gauteng clubs participated in the competition. More than 100 players formed part of the competition. The main draw for the event was former and current Protea players such as Nici Neale.

The tournament started on Saturday with the Singles first round followed by a second and third round of Fours. The fourth round was for Pairs. The competition’s format worked on a points system, with the player with the highest points emerging victorious.

Although the cold and wet conditions persisted throughout Sunday, they did not deter bowlers from taking to the greens and showing off their skills. In the finals, Protea players Morgan Muvhango and Bobby Donnelley faced off against each other for the prestigious title.

Each player had three teammates to assist in clinching the title. Muvhango’s team consisted of Wilson Malobolo, Colleen Piketh and Rika Lynn while Donelley’s teammates were Duanne Abrahams, Jason Smith and Jonathan Franks. It was Donelley and his team that came out on top in the encounter, treating spectators to a thrilling match.
