Kaylee, a rising table tennis star

Kaylee is a talented table tennis player

Discovery Primary Full Service School has a table tennis champion in its midst. Grade 6 pupil Kaylee Harmse won a table tennis tournament held at Queens High School on Friday 16 September. The 12-year-old started playing the sport in 2014 by practising with her father. This led to her developing a love of table tennis and taking it seriously.

“I started to enjoy playing with my father, competing with other players on my level and just having fun,” she said.

A carrot in the form of a place in the Gauteng Provincial Girls U/13 team was dangled in front of the players participating in the tournament. Players had to win four sets to be considered for a spot in the team.

“In the finals of the tournament I faced a talented girl from Goudpark Primary School but I prevailed. I couldn’t believe I won and was so overwhelmed. I didn’t know there was a chance for me to be in the provincial team so that was an added bonus,” said Kaylee.

The talented player will now be concentrating on working hard to be ready for an upcoming tournament in Pretoria and show off her talent. Kaylee has plans to become a professional table tennis player one day.
