GALLERY: Agape’s 15-year winning streak comes to an end

RUIMSIG – Victory House Private School wins the Inter-school Christian League.

Victory House Private School lived up to its name when it broke Agape Christian School’s 15-year winning streak at the Inter-school Christian League.

Seven schools clashed in a close-fought athletics event at the Ruimsig Athletics Stadium on 16 September, but there could be only one winner. While some schools were small and some were large, all gave their very best while running, competing in shot-put and long jump, and when cheering from the stands.

The results:

Victory House also won the spirit cup for its pupils’ enthusiastic cheering, and Graceview won the percentage cup – an award given to the school with the most points per pupil.

“We have been competing for six years and always won the spirit cup. We just tried and tried but could not win the main title until now,” said an emotional Victory House principal, Sharon Austen.

“Incredible spirit was shown by the parents, pupils, coaches and teachers.”

Agape principal, Clarence Jennings, was not too perturbed by the defeat. “Victory House put a lot of effort into it and have come up over the years to eventually win it, so well done to them.”

Graceview principal, Pastor Gavin van Zutphen said for a small school such as his to be awarded the percentage trophy meant a great deal. “I am surprised we actually came third,” he said.

Welridge principal, Janine Joubert, commented that the day was a big success. “All the children had fun and the weather worked out nicely,” she said.
