Mavericks players in Central West team

Young players to show off cricket talents

Young cricket players from all the Roodepoort schools participated in the Central West Cricket trials. Spread across three days, the purpose of the trials was to find talented players to be part of the U/9 to U/13 teams to compete in the District League.

Three U/9 and U/10 teams will be playing in the competition at the end of the month. The U/11 to U/13 age groups have only one team each, with intense training and development taking place at a higher level. Participating players will be looking to show off their talents with the lure of being selected to participate in the Gauteng Cricket team trials.

Mavericks Sports Club in the Roodepoort CBD has 32 young players who have made it into the various Central West teams. JP Fourie, Brandon Pieters, Nathan du Toit, Jo-Jo Meyer, Tiaan Goosen and Anro Celliers will be among the boys from Mavericks hoping to excel and make the scouts take notice of their talent.

The District League will have teams such as Johannesburg North, North West, Gauteng West and Sedibeng participating. The matches will be played at various schools in the Roodepoort area, with Mavericks Sports Grounds being the main host.
