Rugby legends at Allen Glen

ALLEN'S NEK - Coaches very proud of U16 unbeaten rugby team.

Allen Glen High School’s U16 rugby team once again made their school proud with a brilliant achievement when they won the Virseker Beeld trophy.

Head of the sports department and one of the coaches, Hennie van Vuuren said the team played in the final in Schweizer-Reneke in the North West Province on 27 August against Hoërskool Zeerust and won 26–15.

Van Vuuren’s colleague, JG Spies said the team played 21 games from February to August and didn’t lose one match. “The recipe for the winning streak is a lot of time, determination, patience and our mascot, Toby the dog,” said Spies.

Van Vuuren added that Allen Glen was one of the smaller schools and that he was very proud of what the boys managed to achieve. “About 40 per cent of our matches were won with a score greater than 45 points,” said a proud Van Vuuren. He was also proud to have received a letter from a parent of the U14 rugby team of Frans du Toit High School which competed in the same tournament, who thanked Allen Glen’s U16 team for their support.

“As a parent and on behalf of the U14 team, coaches and all parents, we want to thank your team for supporting us. Congratulations to each player of the U16 team. Well done. We salute you all for a fantastic win,” wrote Corné Theron.
