West Rand Interclub returns

Spring has arrived and many will be looking to get rid of their winter flab and get their beach bodies through the mail, if the Post Office is not on strike. However, an alternative would be to join a running club, as the West Rand Interclub time trial series is making its much awaited return.

The event is a friendly competition between West Rand running clubs such as Panorama, Golden Reef, Krugersdorp, Roodepoort Athletics, Khosa and Florida. Runners can choose to run 5km, or 10km. Last year more than 100 runners could be seen at the starting line of each race, with winners being rewarded with prizes. The event conclude with a braai, where runners and their families could enjoy a boerie roll and a drink or two.

This year, the honour of hosting the opening time trials will go to Golden Reef Running Club and club chairman Cassie Carstens on Thursday 8 September. The club will be looking to its old faithfuls, among them Wikus Kranhold, Bennet Malenyana and Peder Firdman, to take advantage of home ground and bring glory home to their club.
