Month left till Wilro Lions Cycle Challenge

Cycle challenge a month away

The Lions Club of Wilro Park is now in its 30th year of assisting those in need. The non-profit organisation (NPO) is currently organising its 18th annual Wilro Lions Charity Cycle Race, which starts at the Tarlton International Raceway on 18 September.

The Cycle Challenge will be part of the 2017 Official Premier Seeding Series. This allows cyclists who complete the cycle challenge to obtain seeding and start times for cycle races such as the Cape Town Cycle challenge.

Funds raised from the Cycle Challenge will be used to finance the numerous Lions outreach projects such as sponsoring guide dogs and dogs for autistic children, spectacles and hearing aids, and daily feeding schemes. The Lions also sponsor bursaries for less fortunate youths in the country. One of this year’s major projects is the refurbishment of the Gateway Village (differently abled community).

Ms Earth SA contestants Annie Kirsten and Mandisa Mqolombeni will also be attending the event. Last year, in the Elite Men’s 114 kilometre event, Nolan Hoffman was crowned the winner with a time of 2:44:26, while in the Elite Women’s section, Juanita Venter was victorious with a time of 3:20:43
