Debate team working hard for finals

Preparations for Maragon Private Schools‘ debating junior A team to participate in the South African Council for English Education’s (SACEE) provincial competition have suffered a serious setback. The team was knocked out in the quarterfinals of the SACEE regional competition, which were held on 31 July at Fourways High School in Sandton.

The debating team members, Joshua Johnson, Israel Chiloane, Kayla Bontekoning and Sheldon Naiker, helped their team to finish in 14th position out of 49 teams participating in the competition. They will have to work hard in order to be in top form for the provincial competition that will take place over three days in September.

In chess, Sheldon Naiker and Hudson Mcullum competed in the JNW (Johannesburg North West) Maragon Open Chess Tournament. Sheldon competed in the B category and won 3 of his 6 games. Hudson competed in the D category and won 4 of his 6 games.
