Sevens reign supreme at Diggers

Bright future in rugby for these young players

It’s been a fantastic season for the Roodepoort Rugby Club’s U/8 team. They continued their unbeaten run in the Rugby Sevens competition and lifted the Diggers’ Rugby Club’s Sevens trophy in Randburg. The youngsters ran rampant on the day, beating opponents such as Randfontein Rugby Club and Khosa Western Cubs as well as Diggers’ Rugby Club in a 8–0 blowout. In a nail-biting final match, Roodepoort went on to beat Alberton Juniors’ Rugby Club with a score of 3–2. Shawn Schlebusch was named Player of the Tournament. The achievement left coach Danie Schlebusch elated, and he congratulated his team on their victory.

“The boys had to work hard to get into the finals. The team has made good progress this season and we have not suffered any losses yet in this format. The team has been playing well and we have good team spirit,” he said.

This is the third Sevens tournament Roodepoort has won after winning both the Rooi Bok and the Die Burger competitions this season.

The Sevens tournament is played in a different format in the juniors’ division. Each try is worth one point.
