This bodybuilder has got muscle

Clint Frank Horsley is looking to continue his family legacy of being top body building athletes. The 33-year-old recently returned to the sport after a 10-year hiatus and won the men’s over 90 kilogram provincial competition in Vereeniging. This means he has qualified to represent Gauteng at the Mr South Africa competition in Durban next month. If Clint excels in Durban, he will qualify to compete in the Arnold Classic Africa bodybuilding competition next year, as this is one of his main goals. He will also be gunning for the Mr Physique title, for which he will compete in Ennerdale later this year.

“It feels great coming back to the sport after so many years and doing so well.

It still feels surreal to know that I did so well. It hasn’t sunken in yet but my family has been supportive. All I am focused on is working hard to improve myself,” he said.

Clint’s passion for body building comes from his father Robert Horsley who was Mr South Africa in the 80s. Robert also participated in the Mr World competition. His older brother was a much-decorated body builder as well, winning the Gauteng provincial competition three times. He represented the country in Germany.

“It’s my turn to represent the family and continue what my father started.

He was the one who ignited my love for the sport and although I used to be second best to my brother, I feel that now is the time to really step up,” he said.

Clint added that when he was young, he always lost to his brother as they were grouped in the same category. This was one of the reasons he took a long hiatus, as he lacked focus and discipline as a young body building athlete.

“You have to have discipline, consistency and focus if you want to be a success. My advice to young people interested in bodybuilding is to start early, not rush themselves and take supplements to boost their physique. They must be safe and patient as results do no come overnight. They must draw up a schedule and stick to it. Focus, hard work, passion and discipline are key factors in becoming successful,” he said.

Clint has vowed to work hard on improving so he can participate in the Mr Olympia competition, one of the biggest body fitness competitions in the world

“Before I reach 45 I want to give it a go and see how successful I can be. The sport of bodybuilding has faded a bit since the 90s when it had great exposure. I want to help bring back the glory of bodybuilding,” said Clint.
