Cheer teams dazzle to the top

Teams excel at nationals.

Success begets success, and Sonja Nortman and her drummies teams have proved as much.

Laerskool Roodebeeck and Hoërskool Roodepoort’s cheerleading/drummies teams recently participated in the SAMCA (South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association) National Championships in Germiston.

Roodebeeck showed why they are one of the best primary schools as they claimed first place in the All-girl Cheerleading category. They followed this up with a second place finish in the Cheerleading Co-ed category, as well as third position in the Cheerleading Partner Stunts. They narrowly missed out on the podium when the team finished in fourth position in the Cheerleading Group Stunts. Their achievements led the team to second place as Champion of Champions.

Hoërskool Roodepoort finished in fourth position overall and team leader Chantè Fourie once again walked away with the coveted Leader Presidents Cup. This is the third consecutive time she has won this title because of her outstanding leadership abilities.

Coach Sonja Nortman was ecstatic at the success of her team but said they are happy to put the nationals behind them.

“It’s been a long year, so we are happy the nationals are over and done, but I am immensely proud of each and every team member who participated. They gave it their all and deserve all the accolades that come their way,” she said.
