Ladies take to the greens

HONEYDEW – Teams from Linden to Randfontein meet at the Honeydew Bowling Club for a social day of bowls.

More than a 100 women enjoyed a day of bowls at the Honeydew Bowling Club for the annual Ladies Day.

Bowling teams from Linden to Randfontein arrived to play bowls on 23 June and were rewarded with good weather, lunch, goodie bags courtesy of Pam Golding, spot prizes and awards.

A team from Linden Bowling Club, led by Doren Walke, won with 10+27 points and walked away with Clearwater Mall vouchers sponsored by Dyks Attorneys, and a small trophy. Teams from Ruimsig Country Club and Discovery Bowling Club took second and third place respectively with 10+28 and 10+14 points.

Spot prizes of bottles of wine, raffle parcels of wine and snacks as well as the awards were handed over by president of the Honeydew Bowling Club, Chris Bennett. The amount of R400 was also collected for the National Blind Bowling Association.

Bennett thanked all the sponsors and helpers for their service on the day. “Thank you to all the bowlers who sacrificed playing today to help in the kitchen and make this day a success,” Bennett said.

The event is a fun, social occasion for the women of the surrounding clubs to play bowls together and is a fundraiser for Honeydew Bowling Club to collect money to maintain the club.
